2014 Race Plan: Tug 150 (Alaska, USA) Nadezhda Hope (Chukotka, Russia)
Timofei GynungteginJunior Musher
October 4, 1994 -- Lorino, Chukotka (RUSSIA)
Timofei traveled the Iditarod trail in 2013, when Mikhail and Joar ran the race for Team Racing Beringia the first time, watching the racers in action and learning. He has now returned to be part of the team at our base in Alaska, to start training his own team of young dogs! Timofei is from the community of Lorino in Chukotka sitting on the coast of the Bering Strait. Running sled dogs is still a way of life here in this place of marine mammal hunters harvesting seals and walrus when the ocean is covered by ice for most of the year. There are more dogs than people in the community of about 1200 residents, so Timofei has grown up emerged in the traditional culture of dogsledding. He began this season working for Chukotka Discovery training dogs in their tourist kennel in Anadyr, the capital of Chukota – as well as getting dogs and gear ready for Mikhail’s running the Olympic Flame. This is Timofei’s first season racing dogs.
“I am excited to train with my team of young dogs. Together we will learn what we need to do. ” — Timofei
